Welcome to my new blog! I'm saying goodbye to my Tumblr account because its just filled with rubbish and I actually enjoy writing and would like to know if anyone enjoys what I have to say.


So here goes nothing.


Today I had one of those days where I just enjoyed life. I'm a big fan of the National Trust, and me and a friend payed 'Erddig' a visit which was wonderful. The gardens were so beautiful and were full of gorgeous flowers...I could've stayed there all day. The house was nice, and so was the cafe! I would recommend it. But that's not what this is about. We had a very good chat about life. 


Why does life have to move so quickly? Why do we always rush through everything and never take time to smell the roses? I've had enough of being part of a generation that will sit and talk on facebook for hours on end but has never spoken to their next door neighbour. If we move too quickly, we miss all the small things that make life so special! We miss a good walk with views of our amazing planet, the beautiful flowers in our gardens, a sunset, a good meal, the fact that we have access to clean water, the roof over our heads, all the things we 'have' but don't 'need'. I don't want to miss any of that! Life is too short to not appreciate what we have in the moment. 


"I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want." Philippians 4:11-12


This is one of my favourite verses. This is what we need to change. We always want more, this is never enough, there's always something missing, something that would make it better. It's the 'I get the latest iPhone, but i'd still really like an iPad' attitude. But isn't appreciating what we have more important than focussing on what we want? 'Things' aren't always needs, though we might think they are. We need water. We need oxygen. We need love. We don't need facebook. We don't need to be busy every hour of every day. 


When was the last time you dropped your plans for the day so that you could spend time with a friend? People laugh at me because I spend hours sitting in coffee shops, but it's not (just) because I'm a caffeine addict or because I'm lazy - it's because in the back of a coffee shop I can lose myself in a conversation. I can leave my phone on silent and give my undivided attention to the person I am with. I can lose track of time and not care. I can cry, laugh, listen and more importantly I can be present. That is one of my favourite things to do! I have made a vow that my life will never be too busy to miss out on coffee shop catch ups, because if I am not investing my time into people I love and care about then I am doing something wrong. 


So, back to my day. After a day filled with conversation, enjoying nature, drinking tea, eating cake, watching a film, doing a bit of baking and cooking - I feel alive. I feel chilled out! I have reached a point where I will never understand why people create stress for themselves. Why push yourself to the limit if you don't have to? Our bodies respond to stress in so many different ways, and I have been there recently. My body told me it was time to stop and take a step back because stress was taking over, and that taught me a lot! We shouldn't ignore our bodies or our needs because I dont believe that they are designed to cope with that. 


My challenge is this: take a day this week to drop whatever it is you're doing and be spontaneous. Do something you love, something you enjoy and remember that life is precious! Switch off from everything else and take a moment to be. I think you will love it!
